"
Zana was great during our vaccine clinic.  I have had so much fun working with her since we've gotten back home.  She is such a sweet girl and just a doll to handle.
Thanks again – Jen" (Alaska); Zanalaska (Zan Parr Sun x Charm Eyed Jackie x Skips Poquito)

"He is the sort of horse you have to pinch yourself every time you look at him! Good job, he is so kind natured! ... I just love him to pieces." - Joanne, Great Britain; Tyree Sunup Zan Parr (Zan Parr Sun x Eyes Of Charm x Watch Tyree Two)

"I just want you to know how much I love Joey! He is a smart colt ... willing to please ... and maturing nicely. I get so many compliments on him ... He is turning into a tank ... with a beautiful head!

He has nice straight legs with sound strong hooves. Joey loves our cooler weather ... 40's at night and high 60's during the day! He runs and plays all the time with my gelding.

Sincerely, Bonnie" (Arizona); Watch Bert Zan Parr (Watch Tyree Two x Downy Parr x Zan Parr Sun)

When you come to Sunup, you are assured a history and pedigrees from the Who's Who of the breed, and an assured future from a breeding program that not only knows where the Quarter Horse has been, but feels confident about where it's going. History hasn't stopped us in our tracks as today we continue to blend in the best of the performance/conformation lines. Our emphasis has always been on working horses who look good doing their jobs.

So, when you're looking for that ride you'll always remember, take a look at Sunup Ranch. We are a full-time family operated ranch devoted to the breeding of Quarter Horses for more than 50 years. We are Minnesota's oldest and largest breeder. With over 100 head of horses plus Angus cattle, we put our horses to work. We invite you to come roam our pastures and paddocks. We always have a fine selection of weanlings, yearlings, two- and three-year-olds, many started under saddle.

Situated in the glacial drift region of north central Minnesota, Sunup Ranch is a great place for foals to get their start. Born on grass pasture, our foals are the product of a carefully bred and selected band of proven broodmares whose papers bear the names of Two Eyed Jack, Zan Parr Bar, George Paul, Pat Star Jr., Rey Del Rancho, Toad, Easter King, Star Duster, Gay Bar King, Harlan, Wimpy II, Watch Joe Jack, Skipper's King, Silky Fox, Baron Bell, and more.

In 1952 George Paul was bought as a weanling, sight-unseen, from the Nicholson Ranch in Oklahoma. He was bought on a dream. He was a son of Bert and out of the mare N.R. Jacci X Star Deck X Oklahoma Star. N.R. Jacci's dam was N.R. Queen X Bert. Bert was a son of Tommy Clegg.

Little did we know how much George would mean to Sunup's breeding program. He truly put us in the business. He had great speed and agility, traits from his sire, plus he had a lot of type, with muscle expression, heart girth and symmetry. He sired horses with great versatility, conformation and kind dispositions. Today, most of our mares carry George Paul in their pedigrees. He sired multiple AQHA champions; multiple ROMs; multiple APHA champions; multiple Futurity winners; multiple Get of Sire wins; Halter & Perf. pt.-earners; NCHA COA and money-earners. In the January 2006 Quarter Horse Journal you'll find George Paul listed as the grand-sire of Beau Bonanza, the 15th All-time leading open halter point-earning stallion.

2007, 2008 & 2009 SUNUP FOALS ARE NOW AVAILABLE!
Please see our Featured Foals page for pictures of these exceptional colts and fillies
